The unsaid. The hidden. The awkward.
The exposure and concealment of vulnerability is central to my practice. I am particularly interested in suppressed emotions and the anxiety and tension this evokes. Focusing on the action and reaction of hidden forces. By embracing the fluidity and unpredictability of paint I aim to avoid set outcomes. Retaining a level of control yet recognising the importance of letting go, preferring to leave space for uncertainty and the unexpected.
Etching enables me to combine the freedom of drawing with a hint of the sinister. The crispness of the drawn line contrasted with the tonalities of aquatint seeks to expose vulnerability in an imaginary world.
